Alright everyone, prepare for a ton of photos! We had such an amazing day in 3G today. As a reward for making our stamina goal in reading and writing we decided to have a pajama day! We also decided to make it fun by doing some flashlight reading. Thanks to the Pre-K class for lending us their flashlights and to Mrs.Loewen for lending us her colourful light!

We have two fabulous leaders for the month of November.
Nicky has been working hard this month on problem solving. He knows that he can be proactive and choose how he responds in a situation. Nicky has also been improving quickly in his reading! He knows that it is important to put first things first and do his school work before playing. We are proud of you Nicky, keep up the hard work. We all believe in you! Austin has been showing what a great leader he is by putting first things first. He is making sure to get all of his work done and he is taking his time to do it well. He has worked really hard to improve his writing, he is coming up with great ideas and adding lots of detail. He is also showing us how to be a good friend, he is always there to listen when someone needs him. Great job, Austin! It is Bullying Awareness Week here at IREC and across the country too. We are going to be talking all week about ways we can use the 7 Habits to prevent bullying and to be better friends to our classmates. Today we did some brainstorming about 4 of the habits and how they apply. Check out our work! If you're reading this at home, talk about it with your children. How can we work together to make our school a better place? If you scroll down you will see the 7 habits and ways we can use them for conflict resolution. 7 Habits of Problem Solving
Conflict & Bullying ∙ Be Proactive: I’m in charge of me. I can choose my responses towards others. I can use my words to solve a problem without hitting or hurting. ∙ Begin with the End in Mind: I can make smart choices: I can calm myself in any situation by using what I know about Zones. I know the end in mind is solving the problem I will always ask an adult if I need help. ∙ Put First Things First: I can show others that I am a good friend. I will can choose to use my words first to problem solve or to communicate my feelings. ∙ Think Win-Win: I can solve problems by communicating politely and appropriately with others, even if I’m upset or feel hurt. ∙ Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood: I can listen to and understand more than one point of view. I can understand and listen to others when they say STOP. I understand what I do affects others. ∙ Synergize: I can learn from others and, be able to work and play in a friendly way. ∙ Sharpen the Saw: I can have balance in my life. I can eat healthy and get lots of sleep so that I am better at problem solving in any situation. I can ask my parents for help. We had an AMAZING presentation today! Kogan's grandmother came in to talk to us all about Metis culture. We are so thankful she came in!
We were treated with some homemade bannock right away made my Kogan's mom. It was yummy! Miss Graham and Ms.Badall got to model a special Metis coat called a Capote. It was very warm but not heavy. We got to touch and feel many artifacts including moccasins, a wagon replica, and some leather. At the end we learned about Metis sashes. She then gave us all a mini-sash to take home and wear on our coats. We also learned what certain colours mean on a sash. For instance a green sash is worn in the summer and means that the harvest has been good. The Metis people recently introduced a new sash with pink in it, this sash is for hope and resilience against breast cancer. We learned a lot today! |
